Union Avenue Baptist Church is a Southern Baptist Church affiliated with Tri-County Baptist Association, the Arkansas Baptist State Convention and the Southern Baptist Convention. A statement of generally held convictions of Southern Baptists is called “The Baptist Faith and Message.”
The following is a brief statement of our beliefs.
The Bible was written by men divinely inspired by God and is God’s revelation of Himself to man. It has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth, without any mixture of error for its matter.
There is one and only one living and true God. The eternal God reveals Himself to us as Father, Son and Holy Spirit with distinct personal attributes, but without division of nature, essence or being. God the Father reigns with providential care over His universe. God the Son, became known as Jesus Christ through His virgin birth. He lived a sinless life and died on the cross to make provision for the salvation of men. God the Holy Spirit exalts Jesus, convicts of sin, of righteousness and of judgment. He empowers Christians for service.
Man was created by a special act of God, in His own image and is the crowing work of His creation. By free choice man sinned against God and brought sin into the human race.
Salvation is offered freely to all who accept Jesus as Lord and Savior. There is no salvation apart from personal faith in Jesus. A person is saved through repentance of sin and faith in Jesus Christ.
A New Testament Church is a local body of Baptized believers. The church is an autonomous body seeking to extend the gospel to the ends of the earth.
Baptism and the Lord’s Supper
Christian Baptism is the immersion of a believer in water. It is an act of obedience symbolizing the believer’s faith in a crucified, buried and risen Savior, the believer’s death to sin, the burial of the old life and the resurrection to walk in newness of life in Jesus.
The Lord’s Supper is a symbolic act of obedience whereby members memorialize the death of Jesus and anticipate His second coming.
God has established the family as the foundational institution of human society. Marriage is the union of one man and one woman in covenant commitment for a lifetime. Children, from the moment of conception, are a blessing and heritage from the Lord.
